How many times have you heard some friend say, “Oh, that’s terrible news! I should blog about it.” or “Really? Kim Chiu got pregnant? I should read it from the blogs.” Uhmmm… From what part of the English sphere did the word BLOG come from? What is it?

Defining Blog, Blog and Blogging

First, let us define the word as how our English teacher would while holding her stick (when you were still the little cute boy or girl). Ehem. Okay, the four-letter word starts with the letter B. Is it a noun or a verb? Just like LOVE; it can be both ways. Get the picture? So here it goes:

• I want to share my photographs or traveling experiences. I will create a blog (NOUN) about that.
• You really insulted me. I will blog (VERB) about you. Watch out, many people will know your betrayal (then you laugh like an old witch who got no front teeth). Hahahaha.

So just like LOVE, BLOG is great and you can BLOG as much as you want.

How does BLOG works?

Basically, when you decide to own a blog, the first thing to consider is what blog platform to use. The internet provides many platforms out there and the most famous (Plus, they are FREE) are the following:

Blogger - now owned by Google, it really is the blog platform that people first used, loved, and preferred maybe because it’s user-friendly, simple and the most famous. When using this, your blog’s URL address will show like this: http://yourblogname.blogspot.com.

Wordpress – the most famous Content Management System (CMS) around these days. Your URL shows like this: http://yourblogname.wordpress.com.

TypePad and LiveJournal- not familiar,really. But these two platforms were I think the pioneers in the blogging world.

Friendster – Hello? Anybody home? My first blog belonged to the Friendster world. It was http://yourblog.blog.friensdter.com. But the blogging experience was so … little. After writing your post and hitting Publish, the blogging experience ends there. I will tackle about that in a follow-up post.
